Shell's Miscellaneous Page Loosing Half Your EXP without Dying At the beginning of a game playing commissioned, you usually want to keep your experience under 1,000 to assure a safe spot in fed space. Go the the underground and type the wrong password a few times until the gaurd punches your lights out. You will loose half your experience but your alignment will stay the same. Your ship won't be destroyed and you won't loose anything EXCEPT your money. Put all your money in your bank account before atempting this. After you've lost half you experience, DO NOT go back and try to do it again. You will be killed. You can only loose half your exp once a day. Once you have commission, you can NOT do this. I advise you loose all the exp as possible this way then get your commission. This is a great way to loose a lot of experience early in the game because you don't loose anything but the exp. This Still works as of 2/17/00 in TWGS Getting Equipment for SSTing When you SST, don't waste turns warping around for a xxS port. If the port is at 95% or higher, chances are it doesn't have as much equipment as you want to steal. Just upgrade the xxB port rather than finding an xxS port. Like if you wanted 250 holds, just upgrade the port for 25 on equipment. If you want 125 holds, upgrade it for 13 equipment. This saves turns when your in COLT.
Mothing If your mothing a cannon, Make sure that there is no figs blocking your pod from warping out of the sector ..... especially if the sector gun is on . Hate to see ya moth a cannon and not warp out and die :)
Limpets Before you go home at night, always go to Stardock or any other Class O port and check for limpets. People tend to leave the limpets right around Stardock so twarp home if possible. If you want to find folks, deploy limpets. I wouldn't recommend putting them around Stardock. People clean them off when they get to Stardock. Deploy them in MSLs (the feds will kill them at extern tho), around MSLs, regularly visited areas, and around class O ports. People usually don't take their COLTS to Stardock after they finish SSTing. Cloaking If your going to cloak, cloak in fed space. You cannot be photoned there. Although, you will most likely be towed into a MSL at extern ( If the Sector is full of traders past the limit or you violated the fig limit in Fed Space ). If you insist on cloaking out in space, lay down a few limpets. When people density scan, they will just thinks it's limpets and move along. Please people, don't cloak in your own sector. If someone finds it, you'll be better off sitting there defending your planets. If people are going to invade, they're most likely going to photon which will kill your cloak anyway. Always keep cloaks on your ships just in case something happens. Density Scanning Density scanning is the best way to scan. It shows you everything thats in the sector. Holo scanning doesn't show limpets or cloaked ships. But beware, people will set traps out there as far as the density of a sector is concerned. Anom If you see that a sector has an anom, it's either a cloaked ship, limpets, or both. If your not certain what it is go in and hit H. If there are mines there it will tell you `these mines are not under your control' or something along those lines. If there's no limpets or ya just wanna make sure nobody is cloaked also, photon the sector. Blind Warping If you blind warp into a sector with a density, your
dead. You CAN blind warp into cloaked ships, tho, as long as nothing else
is in the sector. If you want to save turns, eprobe and find an empty sector
close to where ya want to go. But beware, there could be a limpet there.
An alien, fed, ferrengi, or even a trader could warp in the sector in that
short period of time. BLIND WARP AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! Planet Scanners If your going to invade, get one of these puppies. Unless the planet is shielded, it will tell you how many figs are on the planet, what level it is, and what the atmospheric cannon is set at. Aliens Unless ya want their ship, don't bother with them. They're just like killing traders. They have figs, shields, varied combat odds, and corbomite. They're not nearly as fun as killing actual players either. They don't give you much exp or alignment. Don't Waste your figs Corp Raiding I don't corp raid, but I've had it done to me before. If your going to corp raid, do it right. Claim EVERYTHING personal before leaving the corp (i.e. large amounts of figs, planets, ships, etc.). Take all the figs and shields off your corp member(s). If killing them will make you go evil, get out of your ISS. If you don't, the feds will come kill you in your moment of victory. Or have your partner in crime kill them for you. It's a lot easier if your the CEO. All you have to do is evict them from the planet, take all their figs and shields, and let the cannon hit them when the enter the game. Don't forget to change the corp password. You better be prepared to defend what you got, they won't be too happy. Corp Raiders will find it hard to lose that bad Rep they get from corp raiding Lost Trader's Tavern If you want to find someone, go to the Tavern. Talk to the grimmy trader. Ask him about TRADER. The price ranges from about 1,000 to 10,000 credits. But, if their ship name is The Merchant Marines you most likely won't be able to find them. After someone has SST'd long enough, the ports start snowballing and you'll know where they SST at. Also, while your looking for them through the grimmy trader, watch for port names that don't really look like Tradewars port names like Nard's Bar and Grill or something. With Twgs no ship name is safe .... It is much easier to grimy with twgs at the moment ... I still suggest that you use The Merchant Marines , since a lot of players still use the name and it will make it harder for anyone griming you Tholians Ya either love em, or ya hate em. I love them. If you have a corporate planet in the sector, they defend at 4:1 odds. Unlike all other ships, tholians won't budge until every fighter and shield is gone. One tholian defends up to 26k figs. Tholians are better for sector defense than any ship in the game, even an IC. Since all other ships will warp out of the sector , instead of guarding the planet if they are attacked Transporters They use lots of ore, but they kick ass. Colonizing with an ISS using a transporter uses 3 less turns oposed to twarp colonizing. It's a lot quicker too. A colt that is 6 turns per warp, uses only 1 turn when moved through a transporter. Be Smart and use this .... anything that saves turns is the best way to do it Deployed Fighters When you make runs, leave your fighters out there. It makes it hell for people to probe. Don't deploy fighters all down the tunnel of your sector. It's like saying `Hey! My sectors right down here!"( I kind of like when a person leaves a trail of figs right to their base ) . The only place remotely close to my sector I would deploy a fig would be right outside. That way, you know if someone has found your planets etc. Don't deploy large amounts of fighters in MSLs. Like right around Stardock. There are lots of MSLs around Stardock. If you leave 50,000 figs in a MSL to assure that you have a safe place to warp to get to Stardock, the feds will kill them at extern. Planet Dropping I would have to say this is one of my favorite things to do. Deploy figs in popular areas where people will be tempted to warp into. Get on a twarp planet and wait for someone to hit your fighter. Turn your sector cannon up high and wait. When they hit the fig, twarp over and and bam, your qcannon gets them. It will most likely destroy their ship depending on how much ore you have and how high the cannon is set. This is a good way to teach toll killers a lesson. Pods When ya get podded, don't stay in the damn thing. I've heard sob stories from newbies about `I've been trading in this pod for a week, give me a break!.' Yea right! Sell that damn thing and buy a Scout. If you come across an escape pod sitting in the middle of space, don't kill it. It could have a shit load of corbomite on it. One little pod could kill your ship with 30k figs on it. Corbomite If it's possible, capture ships. Especially SST ships and ships with low amounts of figs and shields. 1 corbo hits for 20. If the ship has maxed corbo, 1500, you'll get hit for 30k battle points. Ouch.
Exchange Trader Ships If ya invade some dumb ass, and they're sitting on their planet with a bunch of figs/shields exchange ships with them. It doesn't matter if your corped, good, or evil. Just exchange a bullshit ship with them like a Merchant Freighter with no figs or shields. Of course, this won't work with an ISS or a CFS (unless your a CEO). Oh, yea, it also doesn't work if they have their ship locked. Planetary Trading If your not playing with an evil corp, ptrading will be your biggest asset. Say your port regen is 7 days. Find a very large bubble (20-30 sectors) and build xBx ports in them. Upgrade them all to max buying org (this will take some time and money of course). Block off all the entrances to your bubble to assure nobody will come blow the ports you spent so much money and time on. Every week, when your ports are at 100% or so, ptrade at all of them. Be sure to haggle, btw. During the week when you can use your own ports to ptrade, use other ports. Place 1 toll fighter at every xBx port you come across. Try to keep the ports close to each other to insure ore conservation. Using random ports is even more useful if your port regen really sucks or you don't have the assets to upgrade a large amount of ports. This page was orginal done by Shell( Female Warrior who has left the Universe a long time ago ) . I have changed some to fit for the current game ( my comments are usually in blue highlight ) .... but the page setup and most of the information was done by Shell
