Tradewars Information for Beginners
Tradewars is pretty much based on Star Wars and Star Trek. It's an interactive role playing/war game. The name of the game pretty much describes it. You trade for money and you war with other players. When you first start out it seems really boring. After you get into it and start learning, you'll be addicted before you know it. Tradewars is, in my opinion, the most popular BBS game out there. It is very competitive. When you figure out how to port and trade, you will probably do what I did my first game. Hit a bunch of numbers and enter a few times. Your soul purpose is to warp around and hit `neglected' ports that nobody has ported at. You get some experience. You don't worry about the credits you make, just those 9 or whatever experience points. My first game pretty much consisted of that. There's no way I can properly explain how to play the game from when you first enter the game. I can tell you a few things, tho:
Many of the veteran players are more than happy to help new players. If you have a friend who plays, ask them to help you get started. If you don't know anyone who players, find someone who does play and ask them nicely for help. Being a good judge of character would help in that field. Trading & Ports for Beginners If you are new to tradewars, ports might confuse you. I'll try to explain how to make the most out of trading and ports. Here is what a basic sector with a port looks like: Sector : 158
in uncharted space Here is what all this crap means: Sector : 158
(sector number)
in uncharted space Here's how the port system works: The 1st letter is for Fuel Ore. The 2nd letter is for Organics. The 3rd letter is for Equipment. There are 8 basic ports classes you use to trade at: (BBS)
- buying fuel ore, buying organics, selling equipment There, now you all know what all that crap means. When you trade, you don't want to just warp around and port at every port you see. You want to crosstrade. Here's how you crosstrade: Find two ports that are opposite each other (when I say opposite I mean 1 port is selling equipment and buying organics, one port is buying equipment and selling organics) and move your ship back and forth trading at the ports. Use a HELPER! It will make it a lot easier and you'll make a lot more money. Fuel ore is the cheapest product. Equipment is the most expenisve. Organics is between Ore and Equipment. That means you want to try to always cross trade buying and selling organics and equipment. You'll make more money. Density Scanning Density scanning is much better than holo scanning. Density scanning tells you things that holo scanning doesn't plus it doesn't cost any turns. First, here are some common densitys: 100 - a port Those are all I can think of at the moment. :) Relative Density Scan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is what a density scan looks like. I don't remember off hand what all the densitys mean, but I can give you a clue as to what basic things are. Sector 158 - The density of this sector is 105. This most likely means there is a port, 1 planet, and 1 fighter in the sector. It has 4 warps out of it. Sector 1473 - The density of this sector is 140. This *most likely* means there is a port and 1 ship in the sector. This sector has 3 warps out. Sector 2726 - this sector has a density of 0. This means there is nothing in the sector. Although, there is an anom in the sector. Since there is no density, this means there is a cloaked ship in the sector. Sector 3070
- has a density of 107. This most likely means there is a port, 1 fighter,
and 1 mine. Since there is an anom, this most likely means there is a limpet
mine in the sector. After you get used to densitys and density scanning, you can pretty much tell everything that's in the sector. This page was done by Shell |
